Price Is Right

In June 2007, Bob Barker is retiring from the Price Is Right. He has been on television for fifty years.

Bob Barker is a well known television personality. He has been the host for the Price Is Right for thirty-five years. He has won countless awards and nominations. Bob Barker has a huge fan base. Come June 2007 Bob Barker says goodbye to his career as game show host and enters his retirement years.

Barker was born on December 12, 1923 in Darrington, Washington. His father died when Barker was only five. He died of a fall from a utility pole. He worked as an electrician. When his mother remarried in 1940, they moved to Missouri. He has a half brother named Kent Valandra.

Education

Barker graduated Central High School in Missouri. With a basketball scholarship in hand, Barker attended Drury University. He belonged to several clubs and organizations. World War II ceased his education. He joined the Navy and was a fighter pilot. When the war ended, he returned to Drury University and graduated with a degree in economics. He was summa cum laude.

Barker accepted an invitation to speak at the commencement at Drury University. They gave him an honor degree for his life achievements.

Love

Bob Barker met his true love in high school. Her name was Dorothy Jo Gideon. They married in 1945. She died of lung cancer October 19, 1981. He never remarried or had children. His mother lived with him until she died in 1993.

Game Shows

From December 31, 1956 to 1975, Barker hosted a game show called Truth or Consequences. The participants had to answer questions or have to act out goofy activities. The show was very popular. In 1967, he hosted a game show much like the Newlywed Show but it dealt with children and their parents. This show didn’t last long.

The Price Is Right

On September 4, 1972, Barker hosted The Price Is Right on CBS. In the late 80s, Barker decided not to dye his hair. This was highly unusual for a game show host. His show has had primetime specials with lots of money at stake.

Barker has sent records of being the oldest man to be on TV as long as he has. He has been on for fifty years. He is retiring from the Price Is Right on June 2007. They have been searching for a replacement.

Animal Rights

He has been an advocate for animal rights due to his wife and mother. He is in favor of neutering and spraying.

Lawsuits

Barker has had quite a few lawsuits filed against him concerning sexual harassment.
