In the dog world's answer to the Super Bowl, rambunctious puppies ramble and run at Animal Planet Stadium for Puppy Bowl V starting at 3 pm ET on February 1, 2009.

There are not many things that are cuter than a puppy, and puppy lovers can get their fill during the Puppy Bowl on the Animal Planet. Adorable puppies from local animal shelters play at the Animal Planet Field to entertain animal fans.

Animal Planet Puppy Bowl V airs on Discovery Channel at 3:00 to 5:00 PM PM ET .

Puppy Bowl History

The first Puppy Bowl aired in on February 6, 2005, as counter programming for the Super Bowl.

In 2006, Puppy Bowl II introduced the Bissell Kitty Half Time Show for the 30 minute break from the big game. Adorable kittens from local animal shelters entertained views by frolicking and playing of the cat trees and large stands on the Animal Planet Field. The grand finale of the Half Time Show included blasts of confetti’s and streamers raining down on the kitties. The Bissell Kitty Show was a hit and has become a Puppy Bowl tradition.

Puppy Bowl III in 2007 added a tongue-in-cheek look at tailgate parties. Canines were seen lounging around outside the Animal Planet Stadium munching on snacks and treats while they watched the excitement of the Puppy Bowl on TV. The Tail Gate Party was not shown during Puppy Bowl IV but is returning for Puppy Bowl V.

Puppy Bowl IV in 2008 brought more puppies than ever, for the first broadcast in HD. Ref Andrew continued to oversee the puppy fouls and penalties.

Puppy Bowl V on February 1, 2009, introduces Pepper, the Parrot, who will sing a unique rendition of the National Anthem. Returning for the fifth year of the Puppy Bowl are Announcer Harry Kalas, Ref Andrew and the Kitty Half-Time Show.

An all star line up of rambunctious puppies includes 40 pups from area shelters. Join in the fun of watching the lively puppies as they play on Animal Planet Field.
